Media and advertising would have you believe that all yogis are one size and that size is small.

When people hear that I’m a Yoga Teacher I often see a look of surprise. I don’t meet “the look”. But what does a Yoga Teacher look like if you’re not flicking through the curated boxes of Social Media or flicking the pages on a magazine? We look just like you. We come in all different shapes, sizes, colours, and ages.

So here are a few snapshots of me from a class I taught recently when it was hot and I pulled out the shorts. These shorts are actually 4” shorts, that means they’re supposed to come partway down my thighs and when I put them on that is where they sit. Then I move, I twist, I pivot, I reach, I push, and I lift. And guess what, so do my shorts which means they become “booty shorts”.

If I was worried about the “the look” I probably wouldn’t wear these. But, I actually feel more confident in them when they end up the “booty shorts” edition.
How? Why? I can see my super strong legs working hard to move, twist, pivot, reach, push, and lift.
And, I LOVE IT!

So next time you think “I can’t try yoga”, or “I can’t wear those”, ask yourself WHY? And if it’s because you don’t fit “the look” please reconsider your thought process because you are just as much a yogi as the next person.
